Las Casas de San Cristobal

San Cristobal de Las Casas (Chiapas), Mexico

Former capital of the state of Chiapas, the city is located in the central highlands at an elevation of approximately 2100 m. It is the third-largest community in this state, birth of the Zapatista political movement, whose lider is Comandante Marcos who allways standed for the Indian rights.
The city was named after Bartolomé de Las Casas, a spanish priest who defended the rights of the native americans and became the first bishop of Chiapas.

What gorgeous colours! A friend of mine spent some time in San Cristobal recently, it sounded lovely. You would be cheerful here even with terrible weather, with all those colours.

Oh I love these and am reminded of San MIgual De Allende in Mexico that I visited first in 1986...the homes are similiar and I recall walking down the sidewalk peeking into open doorways seeing the jardin inside.. A special love of mine, you have captured the colorful beauty of this place perfectly..!
