Bagan (I)

Bagan is an amazing ancient city located in the dry central plains of Burma/Myanmar, on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady river, 145 km southwest of Mandalay. With their pagodas and temples dating back more than 1500 years of history, this is the most fascinating place one can imagine.
UNESCO has unsuccessfully tried to designate Bagan as a World Heritage Site. The military junta that rules the country, has restored some ancient stupas, temples and buildings, using modern materials ignoring original architectural styles. As there are more than 2000, hopefully most of them will remain intact...

You have found very special in your journey of Asia. I have been in Malaysia and Japan before digital cameras, but I have some photos from those trips too.
I was last May in Safranbolu of turkey, it belongs to World Heritage program.

What gorgeous pictures. I hope the junta have a change of heart and allow them to be preserved without the modern materials.

You are fortunate to have traveled these incredible journey's, and have a great eye for color and design, wow, I am jealous. Amazing architecture...unbelieveable, again a testament to people and earthly materials, and the visual arts..and culture...
thanks for sharing your travels here...!
