The 'lodge':
Lake Turkana (former Lake Rudolph) is located in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, where climate is extremely hot and dry and winds can be really strong.
With its far northern end crossing into Ethiopia, it is the largest permanent desert and alkaline lake in the world, where Nile crocodiles are found in great abundance on the flats.
All the surrounding area is predominantly volcanic and an active volcano still emits vapors on Central Island.

Hi Jim,
I wish you a Happy 2009 New Year and may health be with you through out the year 2009.
What a sad state those northern countries are in Jose. But as little as they do have, they are smetimes happier than their southern brothers who are bothered by all kinds of unrest. Thanks for sharing. How come you have traveled so much, is it part of your work?
Indian temple is very elaborate.
Africa is our roots.
I hope your new year would be good!!
Hello JM:)
It is very exciting to see photos of this remote corner of the earth.
The turquoise water is an amazing sight to watch.
The people are so simple, so backward, living in small huts, having minimum basic needs. Just compare this sight to modern sky scrapers, stylish cars, mobile phones etc. It is a great wonder to see how these people survive in the harsh conditions in which they live. They must be delivering babies in their homes, I suppose.
The boy in the photo looks like he is suffering from malnutrition.
I did not see one fat, plump person in the group photo. But then, come to think of it, how can there be a heavy weight when these people have to struggle for their existence day after day and live on meager food just to keep their body and soul together. They appear to be proud and happy to be what they are.
Many thanks for showing Natures wonders and God's miracles.
Best wishes:)
I have checked your latest posts here and again completely overwhelmed (and jealous)! All the places I still have to visit! (I'm making some plans.)
Amazing colours!
Suas fotos são maravilhosas!
Me sinto viajante dentro delas...
