There's something wrong with this picture...these kids are way too young to know what they want out of life...

But, I think all religions are the same in this regard - they try to get the children indoctrinated at an early age!

the smiles and joy on the faces of the young monks on pix 2 is infectious.

Jacob, these boys come from very poor families and sending them to the monasteries is, most of the times, the only way they are taken care of and get some education. Only those who 'have the faith' will go on being a monk, the others will leave to a regular life.

Hey JM, I know I asked you before but could I use some of your awesome photos for paintings? I would always credit you as the source.

You are right Jose. It is the only way that some of these children will ever have food in their stomaches by becoming monks.

From your pics one can tell that Burma is a wonderful country. And it's so sad that they have this brutal junta damning the whole thing...
God bless you!

You have some beautiful pictures. I have many photographs from my travels but mostly with a film camera and I was not very good at it. I bought a Nikon D40 last year so I am hoping that I’ll improve. Thanks for finding my blog and writing a comment. I hope you will come back.

Wow! That is a very very interesting post JM! The Monasteries are very very kind to gather these kids and take care of them. Oh! I've seen so many photos of Burma from your Blog and it really really makes me want to go there too! Though we are on the same SE Asian Region, it's quite hard to get there since there are no direct flights there :( Maybe via Bangkok :D

Wow, you have been all over Myanmar.
Wonderful little monk pictures.

I was told that every Burmese boy was required to put in some time in a monastery.
It's not a bad idea. For every country.
