Lake Titicaca - Los Uros

Lake Titicaca is located on the border of Peru and Bolivia, at 3.812 m above sea level, making it one of the highest commercially navigable lakes in the world.

Los Uros are a group of artificial islands made of floating totora, a reed that abounds in the shallows of the lake. Their original purpose was defensive as they could be moved if a threat arose.

Puno, the most important city on the peruvian side, can be seen in the background.

These are really gorgeous, what a beautiful place.

I also liked your pictures of Pamukkale. When I went to Turkey in the late 90s they had closed it to tourists because the damage to the calcium deposits was so great and there was lots of pollution, though I think they've reopened it more recently. So I've still not seen it, unfortunately.

Hi JM :)

The name Titicaca casts a magic spell on me. Even in school days when we studied about this lake in geography class this name intrigued me. I don't know why?

Now I am able to see some classy photos and to some extent my curiosity has been satisfied.

So far you have taken me to so many lovely places on this wonderful world. Left to my self I could not even dream of seeing these enchanting locations.

Many, many thanks.

Wish you a wonderful day :)

JM, what absolutely beautiful photos, and culture. I have to stop to reflect upon the simply life of these folks, hard work I am certain, but the way they are so involved in nature is life giving. The colors, the boats, all of it is so beautiful, I can almost taste the beauty.
