I'd say you were out shooting in the late afternoon (or early in the morning) 'cause the light is just gorgeous in these two photos.

That structure is beautiful in its own right, and looks well-preserved for being so old!

Just love the sun in Portugal. It makes old buildings come to life! Now I know where the Mission churches in California got their style! These photos makes me want to go to church.
