I know sailors have a tradition when they cross the date line. Is there a tradition when you cross the Equator...do they throw you over a cliff! That could hurt at almost 6400 ft! :-)

It also occurred to me that this sign could use a little work...

Great capture! So that's the equator, huh! That sign looks as though its been around for a while! Maybe a face lift???? Wonderful travel post as always, JM!

The sign also says; This is the hottest place on Earth!

That sign do need some fixing ! The Equator, it is only man's definition of an imaginery line that divides the northern half of the planet from the southern half.

Oh, this is so cool! I was there! I loved watching the demonstration of how the rotation of water changes from 10 paces to either side of this sign!
Wish my Africa pics were digital.
Have a fabulous day!

that is a wide equator sign.

Very cool! Did you straddle the equator to be in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres at the same time? I would have!

I would love to be there and take that picture! One of those "I've been there" shots!

I think we know it's an imaginary line, but it helps us in geography.

Wow! Now that's a sign not too many places can claim! And it looks as if it has weathered a few storms too!

Great sign... and clever question about straddling the equator from EG.

Wow. I've never been to the equator and probably never will, but I like this sign!
