Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo was the royal state of the Inca Emperor Pachacuti who conquered the region, built a town and a ceremonial center. At the time of the spanish conquest this place served as a stronghold for the Inca resistance.
The site is located at an altitude of 2.972 meters in southern Peru.

The slope of the far-off mountain shows how here is located in the high place.

This is grand journey.

That second picture does give a wonderful perspective of the place Jose. What a magnificent structure. Amazing that they still stand after all these years.

JM, we have been here also. You have captured the essence of it well. It has survived in tact for so long, despite being in an earthquake area, because the incas built their stone structures with interlocking joints. An even more amazing feat is that the stones of some their buildings and walls did not come from the local site, but were hauled up the mountain.
