The lost city of the Incas

Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian site located 2.400 meters above sea level on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru. It was built around the year 1460, but was abandoned as an official site for the Inca rulers a hundred years later, at the time of the spanish conquest of the Inca empire. Although known locally, it was said to have been forgotten for centuries when the site was brought to worldwide attention in 1911 by american historian Hiram Bingham. It is also one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Looking down you can see the train that connects Machu Picchu to Cuzco, a wonderful 6 hours journey through the most amazing sceneries.
Aguas Calientes is the last train stop. Once here you have to take a van to go to the site on top of the mountain.

Hi JM :)

Many thanks for this exclusive tour of the lost city of the Incas. The journey must have been quite difficult and arduous. The train journey looks dangerous but the scenic beauty is breath taking.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rare, precious photos with a sense of awe.

Have a wonderful day :)

I trawled through your posts as I felt sure Machu Picchu would be here! I made it there back in June despite having a knee problem and walking was tricky! It was worth the pain. My camera died in the train on then way up, so your pictures are balm to my soul.
